Children's toys have become a mass produced commodity made from unnatural materials for short-term trends. I believe these processes have led to a disconnect between children and the natural world. In this project I aim to model a 3D kite inspired by my favourite childhood toy. I aspire to reconnect young children living in 2021 with nature by encouraging the use of hand-crafted toys with repurposed materials. I wish to emphasise aspects of accessibility, sustainability and craft. I will depict the toy made from sticks, string, ribbons and old cloth, therefore raising awareness to children about the need for sustainability in play. Furthermore, the kite will appeal to a wider audience as it doesn't require complex systems or materials to re-create and enhances creative problem solving skills. The poster featuring the kite will inspire eco-friendly play by sustainable advocacy group 'PLAYECO'. In conclusion, I hope to inspire children to reconnect with their natural environment through sustainable toys and encourage play outdoors.
